After the main site's redesign in 2017, we felt it was time to expand and rethink the candidate application process. While the Careers section provided some information on Company offerings, it was mostly viewed as a stepping stone to the actual recruitment site where the job listings were held. In partner with cross-functional teams, we worked to change that user journey and provide a more engaging story for our candidates.
Picking and choosing the right experience.
Since we had an ambitious timeframe and limited data, we sought guidance from key functions within the business, experts in the recruitment process, to gain a deeper understanding of what an ideal candidate experience would entail.
Throughout the ideation phase, we kept to a big-to-small approach and really thought critically of what features and content were considered crucial or simply just 'nice-to-have'. We tested the boundaries and explored avenues beyond what the existing modular design system possessed.
Guiding the candidate.
Our initial touchpoints produced a lot of valuable insights/suggestions and so, we decided on a phased approach given our tight timelime. We would launch with key features approved by our teams and execute further improvements post-production. As the design lead, we worked to primarily highlight Stanley Black & Decker's story and completely redesign the landing page in order to build a more robust and engaging experience for our candidates.
We created new story-type panels with updated visuals to bring candidates closer to the company's values and commitments. We also added a new job search functionality and developed a content and design strategy around career path exploration to better guide the application process.
